Updated. Maybe even the greatest British full back of all time. His only weakness was his shooting, other than that he was defensively excellent, fast, had good technique and passing, very tough in the tackle and a brilliant leader. He mostly played out of position at left back for Scotland to accommodate Jardine on the right, but had no noticeable decrease in performance. Maybe he was a little bit dirty sometimes but he was a total professional and a Celtic legend, most fans consider him our best ever defender, even above Billy McNeill. At least in my opinion, he was the best right back in the world for a year or two in the mid 70s, after Vogts and Alberto had declined a little and before Kaltz hit his peak. If he hadn't have had so many injuries and illnesses from 1977 onwards then he might even be considered a top 10 right back of all time, although I'd still have him in the top 20 even despite that.
