Rocca is a former left or right back. He spent his entire and short career at Roma, making 173 appearances from 1972 to 1981, scoring 2 goals ─ both in the 1976-77 season. He gained 18 caps for Italy, scoring once. He was forced to retire after continuous knee injuries that occurred since the beginning of the 1976-77 season. Rocca was a side back capable of defending and most importantly of attacking. He was renowned for his outstanding speed that he used to make constant and endless raids from the defence to the attack, showing great strength during his exciting progressions. Then, he usually assisted a teammate with a fast cut back pass or an accurate cross to the box, proving to be equally good with both feet. Also, he was praised for his dedication in training. In fact, he quickly improved his technical qualities, his accuracy with the left foot ─ he was a natural right-footed ─ his crossing skills, the ability to cover the zone and to choose the right time to push forward. Moreover, he did all that with exceptional consistency.
