Maggiora is a former side or centre back and defensive midfielder. Grown up at Juventus, he only played a Coppa Italia match with the first team. He had his best time at Roma, where he made 161 appearances from 1976 to 1982, scoring twice. He played also for Varese, Sampdoria, Cagliari and Catania, where he retired in 1987. A talented defender, Maggiora wasn't very fast but nor too strong in physical challenges but was a fine man marker and possessed good anticipation ability. However, he was mostly praised for his uncommon technical qualities and dribbling ─ he even wore the jersey n°10 with Roma in two occasions. He also delivered accurate and quite fast crosses, preferably from the back. In fact, he didn't push forward a lot but when he did, he usually showed good things. He didn't score many goals but was gifted with good shot technique even though his kicks weren't very powerful.
