Dominique Bathenay was the best example of French total football. Complete midfielder and later defender, he could defend, create and score. Very strong and endurable player who covered a large part of the field, capable of sending good long balls, had very powerful shot and scored some goals from distance, he also had good pace and skillful footwork, good heading abilities as well. Bathenay we retain most of his career with the Greens, with whom he won three championship titles in France, three Cups in France and especially his performance in the European Cup, where his goal scored in Liverpool in March 1977 is still fresh in our memories, and his shot on the square bar of Hampden Park in Glasgow in the final against Bayern lost May 12, 1976.
