Former German striker and midfielder. Horst was useful player who could play in attack and midfield, maybe he wasn't genius but was complete player. He was very intelligent in coming from deeper position in midfield and score, had excellent shot technique which enabled him to score some great volleys. Koppel had soli pace and good dribbling, sometimes looked little bit clumsy but actually had very good ball control, knew to make good pass, very mobile player with good teamworking habits, useful in defensive duties as well. As a striker he was active from 1966 1979 for VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Moenchengladbach. With Borussia he was in 1970, 1971, 1975, 1976 and 1977 German champion. He also won the Glad Bachem 1975 and 1979 UEFA Cup. Köppel played in between the summer of 1976 and 1977 in the North American professional league for the NASL Vancouver Whitecaps. In the national team played Koeppel 1968 to 1973 eleven times and scored twice. He stood in the German national team, which was European champion in 1972 in Belgium. After his playing days he coached the first FC Viersen (as player-manager), Arminia Bielefeld, Bayer Uerdingen, Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Moenchengladbach and Fortuna Dusseldorf. As an assistant coach was also the first Koeppel FC Köln and Eintracht Frankfurt committed. He was also active as a coach for the DFB (including at the 1986 World Cup). With Borussia Dortmund, he was appointed coach in 1989 DFB Cup winner and was followed on 26 March 1992 Hans-Jurgen Gede at Fortuna Dusseldorf, where Koppel was originally on 30 January 1992 was entered as a sports director. On 26 April 2009 Horst Köppel was appointed the new coach of second division relegation-threatened FC Ingolstadt 04 rescue presented to this with a placement on the second from bottom in the remaining five games before the descent.
