INFO:

Uli Stielike is former German footballer. He was versatile player who played mainly as defensive midfielder in his clubs and later as libero, meanwhile in NT he almost always played as libero. Uli was strong and determinate player, good tackler and fighter. Sometimes too harsh in tackling. He was good organizer of the attacks with his solid ball control and good passing range. Stielike had great pace on the ball, often surging forward very quickly from the back line. He also had solid shot, great sense of anticipating but also good positioning as well in both defensive and offensive duties. Uli was strong in aerial battles and showed great leader capacities. Uli Stielike began his career in the youth team of his native city, then he moved in 1973 in the "Borussia" from Mönchengladbach, first playing the position of central defender, and then the midfielder. With the Borussia Stielike won three Bundesliga, UEFA Cup and went into the Champions League final. In 1977 he moved to Spanish club "Real" Madrid, with whom he won three examples, two King's Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup, and was in the finals of the Champions Cup and Cup Winners' Cup. In 1985 he joined the Swiss "Neuchatel Xamax," which won two Swiss Super League. Stielike retired in 1988. In West Germany Stielike served from 1975 to 1984, having spent 42 games and scoring 3 goals. With the team he won the European Championship in 1980 and silver medals in the World Cup 1982 semi-final which was the only German Shtilike not scoring in the penalty shootout. At the World Championships in 1978 Stielike did not go because of the German Football Association guidelines do not take players acting out the Bundesliga. The last match for England Stielike held in September 1984 against a team from Argentina, which was the debut Franz Beckenbauer at the post coach, the game ended with the defeat of Germany 1:2. After completing a career footballer Stielike in 1989 led the team in Switzerland, then worked with his former club, "Neuchatel Xamax". On September 9, 1998 on May 7, 2000 served as assistant of Erich Ribbek in the German national team, from left to difficult relations with the Ribbek who does not chose his assistant, Stielike was appointed to the position of president of the German Football Association. Since 2000, Stielike worked with youth teams in Germany, with whom he worked 6 years, but with the completion in August 2006 contract, a new charge of all German teams, Matthias Sammer refused to renew the contract with Stielike. In 2006 Stielike led team of Côte d'Ivoire where he worked 2 years, but January 10, 2008, 10 days before the African Nations Cup, fell gravely ill son and Uli immediately flew to Germany, but on 23 February son Michael died, the cause of death - unsuccessful operation for lung transplantation. Without a coach, Côte d'Ivoire has taken only the 4th place. Later he returned to Stielike Ivorians, but April 15 leadership team did not want to renew the contract with a German specialist. At May 31, 2008 Stielike signed a 3-year contract with the club, "Sion", but was fired November 3 eccentric club president Christian Constantin, firing up his eight coaches in 2 years.
