Attack / Defence Awareness Card: Attack MindedINFO:Roger Van Gool is former Belgian player. He played mainly as right winger although could be used on the left side as well. He was player with good dribbling, agile but also strong despite the small size he shielded the ball excellent. He liked to take a few beers but on the pitch he was very mobile and fighted for every ball something like Ivica Olić but with better technique and footwork. Van Gool was useful as assist man and scorer, very intelligent player who knew always to make good runs in the box and score. He played several years for Antwerp FC, known domestic and European success with Club Brugge 1. FC Köln and played several times with the national team. After the youth of FC, Van Gool Wildert playing for Antwerp FC in 1967. After the 1967/68 season, which Van Gool already played a few games, the highest division of Antwerp fell to the Second Division. Two years later, when Antwerp was returned in the First Division, Van Gool finally became a fixture in the team. He had some good seasons in Antwerp, and was vice-champion with the club in 1973/74. Van Gool was transferred in the summer of 1974 at Club Brugge. In 1975, Van Gool first selected for the national team. With Brugge 1976 he was champion. He reached the team final of the UEFA Cup in 1975/76, but was lost to Liverpool FC. That year he was sold to Germany. He was paid one million first transfer the history of the Bundesliga because he 1. FC Köln 1 million German marks was taken. Van Gool became a crowd favorite in Cologne. In his time at Cologne, the German club of its most successful periods. Van Gool won the Bundesliga club once (1978) and twice the DFB-Pokal (1977 and 1978). In the European Cup in 1979 they pushed through to the semifinals. In 96 Bundesliga Matches for Cologne, he scored 28 times. During this period Van Gool played for the national team. He would play seven games in Belgium between late 1975 and late 1978. He scored twice, once against the Netherlands, and once against Northern Ireland. He participated in the European Championships of 1976. In 1980 he went to play for England Coventry City. After one year in England came back to Belgium, however, Van Gool, and he did a season for his former club FC Antwerp games. In 1982 he went to France, Nimes Olympique. The club played in Ligue 2, but in his first season did have one promotion to Ligue 1 to enforce. The season then stranded the club back on a relegation spot and Van Gool returned to Belgium after two seasons back, and went there one year in Sint-Niklaas SK football.
