INFO:Dietmar Danner was part of Borussia Mönchengladbach's golden generation. A technically very strong central midfielder, almost a playmaker, who – due to the great number of fine midfield players in Mönchengladbach’s 1970s side - often had to play as a full back on both sides. A lightweight and lightfooted player with a subtle left foot who could read and control a game. He was tireless runner and very fast player. His passing was good, and he could score even from free kicks and heading. Dietmar Danner began at Eintracht Plank town with the football before he moved to the VFR Mannheim, where he made his debut with 18 years in the Regional team. In 1971 he joined Borussia Mönchengladbach. In 1973 Danner with Borussia finished fifth in the Bundesliga and were DFB Cup winner. In the first half of the 1974-75 season because of injuries was little used, in the second half he was again a regular player and won his first German championship title. On 7 May 1975 in Dusseldorf and on 21 May in Enschede was then in the two finals of the UEFA Cup; Borusia Moenchengladbach won after a 5-1 second leg win over FC Twente Enschede as the first German team ever the UFA Cup. In the season 1975/76 was then in all 34 games there and won for the second time the German championship title. Danner had participated in his first five years at Borussia in 149 games, than started the problems with the medial ligament and the meniscus and in the next four years he collected only thirty games. In the German national team Danner came to six official appearances in the period from 1973 to 1976. His sixth and last international match was the semifinal of the European Football Championship in 1976, when he was substituted at halftime by Heinz Flohe. Danner in the national team could never build on the club benefits, he also had to regularly fight with injuries. His career as a professional footballer, he sat in the 1980/81 season at FC Schalke 04 with 19 appearances on, he got off with Schalke in the Bundesliga. From there he spent a year at 1 FC Saarbrücken. 1982/83 he finished his football career after one year at ASK Linz in Austria.
