INFOUwe Kliemann was a real giant for his era, unusually skillful player for such a huge beast. He had solid ball control and especially very good passing range, mainly for his wingers. Uwe was very attacking minded player, constantly supporting the attacking moves. He was very dangerous in aerial battles due to his size but also good heading technique. Although being such a giant, he was never butchering type of player, even didn't use his strength too much. He had rocket shot and was dangerous from free kicks, very combative and mentally strong. Dubbed “radio tower” by the media, Uwe Kliemann was a very tall stopper and later sweeper with a great, commanding aerial presence. It was almost impossible to beat him in the air and his heading ability was also a weapon at set-pieces. Additionally, Kliemann was one of the very first stoppers who initiated attacks with long passes from the back, a job usually reserved for the libero. For a player of his height, he possessed a very good control of the ball and his passes were razor-sharp precise. His one drawback was his lack of pace. Due to being a somewhat unconventional type of player and character, more conventional stopper-types like Schwarzenbeck and Rolf Rüssmann were always preferred for national duties. After his retirement, Kliemann became a streetworker in Berlin. In 1972 he moved to Eintracht Frankfurt, where he became one of the best defensive player in the league. He was with Frankfurt 1974 DFB-Cup winner. As a player of Hertha BSC, he made his only international match on 17 May 1975 against the Netherlands. With Hertha he also reached the final of the DFB Cup 1977 against 1 FC Cologne, which he lost but after a 1-1 draw in the first game in the replay 0-1. Two years later he moved again to the final one at the DFB Cup in 1979 and lost this time with 0:1 against Fortuna Düsseldorf. Uwe Kliemann remained until 1980 and moved to Hertha Berlin of the relegation from the Bundesliga then to Arminia Bielefeld. However, he made a single game due to injuries and had to go to Bielefeld for the season end 1981 end his career. 1984 Kliemann appeared, as he his former club Hertha BSC as a coach, took over but was dismissed in December 1985. For a few months he took over the coaching career at SpVgg Bayreuth.
