Anton Ondruš is legendary Slovakian footballer. He was great attacking libero who had excellent mixture of strength and elegancy. Anton had good pace on the ball, knew to make good dribbling run and had solid passing range. He started as a striker initially, later became fabuolus attacking sweeper with excellent heading abilities, great man on man marking and sense of positioning. Anton Ondruš played in his youth for Slovan Bratislava. There, the defenders managed to jump in 1970 in the first team. Fast the 1.89-meter Ondruš established as a sweeper. 1974 Ondruš debuted in the Czechoslovak national team, whose mainstay he should be in the next seven years. A total of 37 times he was captain of Czechoslovakia, including at the European Championships in 1976 in Yugoslavia, in Czechoslovakia won the gold medal. He won with Slovan Bratislava in 1974 and 1975, the Czechoslovak football championship. In 1974 he won the Czechoslovak Cup, 1974 and 1976, the Slovak Cup. In 1978 he briefly played for Dukla Banska Bystrica and then returned to Slovan Bratislava. At the European Championships in 1980 he succeeded with his team winning the bronze medal. 1981 Ondruš moved to FC Bruges in the Belgian League, graduated from there but only nine competitive matches. From 1983 to 1987, the Slovaks played for French club CS Thonon-les-Bains before he could finish his career from 1987 to 1989 at the FC Biel-Bienne, Switzerland. Anton Ondruš completed in the Czechoslovak league 226 games, in which he scored 38 goals. 1974, 1975 and 1977 he was elected as the third best player in Czechoslovakia in 1976 as the second best. Thonon-les-Bains he was from November 1986 to January 1987 and player-coach. Anton Ondruš 1997 was briefly president of SK Slovan Bratislava. He now works as a players' agent in Switzerland.
