INFO:Georg Volkert was one of the greatest German left wingers, and many people in Germany consider him as the best German left winger after World War II. He was complete player, technically gifted with good crosses. Volkert was strong in sprint and with powerful shot he scored lot of goals, but also lot of them were penalties (31). In HSV he improved on strength and endurance, although he wasn't always consistent, it was hard to predict what can be expected from him before each game, and he also used to exaggerate with dribbling sometimes. He began his professional career in 1965 at the 1 FC Nuremberg. In 1968 he was with the Nuremberg, the German champion. In the seasons 1969/70 and 1970/71 Volkert played for FC Zurich and scored 15 goals in 52 games in the National League in 1971 A. Volkert moved to Hamburger SV. With HSV, he won the DFB Cup in 1976 and a year later the European Cup Winners' Cup. The exceptionally good performance in this period gave back the now 30-year-olds in the national team. He made 1977 a further six matches. In his last game, the German team achieved this first success against Italy after the 2nd World War II. Overall, it Volkert brought to 12 internationals. In 1978 he moved to VfB Stuttgart and has been with the Swabian German vice-champion in the first season. His career ended in 1981 Volkert again at the 1 FC Nuremberg. Georg Volkert completed a total of 410 Bundesliga games and scored 125 goals. After finishing his professional career Volkert was still playing in the amateur clubs Hummelsbütteler SV TuS Hoisdorf and then began a managerial career in football. First, the FC St. Pauli, then at Hamburger SV. His time as manager of a professional football team was not marked by such successes as his career. Until 1991, he tried in that capacity at HSV from 1996 to 12 December 1998 he was manager at the 1 FC Nuremberg. Here he was, however, blamed for the lack of competitiveness of the "Club" squad and released, making his official career was over.
