INFO:Dimitar Penev was the most complete Bulgarian defender. He was a central defender and sweeper, also midfielder known for his ability to lead the defense. Player with good technique and speed, good in starting the attacks, excellent in anticipating which also made him being used in midfield. Penev was outstanding in jump, although not giant physically, he also had solid shot but didn't shoot too often. As a footballer mainly played a central defender position. He played for teams: Lokomotiv (Sofia) during 1959-64 and 1964-77 CSKA. He was Champion of Bulgaria with Lokomotiv (Sofia) in 1964 with CSKA in 1966, 1969, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1976. Bulgarian Cup with CSKA in 1965, 1969, 1972, 1973, 1974. He played in 364 games and scored 25 goals in the first division. He played 90 games (15 times captain) and scored 2 goals for the Bulgarian national team. Participant in the World Cup finals in 1966, 1970, 1974. Best player of Bulgaria for 1967 and 1971. Ends premier coaching school in the VIF. As a coach has led teams: Dimitrovgrad, CSKA Sofia (champion in 1987, 1989 and 1990 Cup winner in 1987, 1988, 1989, 1999), Spartak (Varna), Kuwait and Saudi Arabia (won the cup "seven holy mosques" ). Chief coach of the national football team reached the Fourth place on World Cup in USA in 1994.
