Well after Slavic and East German Beckenbauer here's also the Bulgarian: Dimitar Penev. He was the most complete Bulgarian defender with good technique and speed, good in starting the attacks, excellent in anticipating which also made him being used in midfield. Penev was strong in jump, although not giant physically, he also had solid shot but didn't shoot too often. As a footballer mainly played a central defender position. He played for teams: Lokomotiv (Sofia) during 1959-64 and 1964-77 CSKA. He was Champion of Bulgaria with Lokomotiv (Sofia) in 1964 with CSKA in 1966, 1969, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1976. Bulgarian Cup with CSKA in 1965, 1969, 1972, 1973, 1974. He played in 364 games and scored 25 goals in the first division. He played 90 games (15 times captain) and scored 2 goals for the Bulgarian national team. Participant in the World Cup finals in 1966, 1970, 1974. Best player of Bulgaria for 1967 and 1971. Ends premier coaching school in the VIF. As a coach has led teams: Dimitrovgrad, CSKA Sofia (champion in 1987, 1989 and 1990 Cup winner in 1987, 1988, 1989, 1999), Spartak (Varna), Kuwait and Saudi Arabia (won the cup "seven holy mosques" ). Chief coach of the national football team reached the Fourth place on World Cup in USA in 1994. Dimitar Penev led the team on the first participation of European Football Championship in 1996 in England. He was selected as a coach № 1 of the twentieth century in Bulgaria. Awarded the Order of Stara Planina - first degree. Honorary Citizen of Sofia. On September 19, 2005 he was selected as the president of the Club of veterans and activists, "CSKA. Since April 2006, served as general manager in CSKA. On 30 July 2007 he was appointed coach of the national soccer team. Since January 2008 he was director of youth and youth national teams. From summer 2008 until March 5, 2009 was coach of CSKA.
