INFO:
Poli was a versatile player, defensive midfielder, side back, sweeper and more rarely centre back. His career began in 1965 and from there he changed team every two seasons. He played for Lanerossi Vicenza from 1965 to 1967 and from 1971 to 1973, for Inter from 1967 to 1969, for Cagliari from 1969 to 1971 ─ winning the Scudetto ─ and from 1973 to 1975, when he retired. He appeared in 105 matches ─ scoring 3 goals ─ with Vicenza, 22 with Inter, 99 with Cagliari.
Poli was the kind of player who acted in both defence and attack. His main task was to mark an opponent, constantly exchanging target with the defenders, but had some troubles against technically gifted strikers. He pushed forward a lot and it was surprising when he decided to stay back for the entire match. He didn't possess good technique but was gifted with good passing ability, especially when delivering accurate pinpoint crosses from the back. Sometimes he moved to the flank ─ usually the right ─ to send crosses from the end line. This characteristic was shown even more when he acted as side back and added vitality to the offensive play.
