Claudio Merlo is former Fiorentina legend and captain. He was attacking and central midfielder, real "fantasista" with great lucidity and technique but with poor scoring capacities. Merlo was tactically and technically one very high level, run a lot as well, capable of producing brillant last passes which lead to numerous goals, physically a bit weak and slim, slow as well but very elegant and graceful. With Fiorentina is called to build the action together with Giancarlo De Sisti. If Giancarlo is in the control room, Merlo acts more as a playmaker and makes balls for filtering entries by Luciano Chiarugi and Amarildo. After more than ten years in Florence, being closed by Antognoni and Domenico Caso, decided to move to Milan, Inter side which often alternates with Sandro Mazzola, totaling 38 appearances in two seasons and winning the Cup Italy 1977-1978.
