Ralf Edstrom is former Swedish striker. He was very tall and strong, dominant in aerial battles and gifted with excellent technique which sometimes allowed him to act as a deep lying forward/playmaker since Sweden has eternal problem of lacking creative midfielders since era of Gren and Liedholm. Edstrom also had ferocious shot and was excellent in performing volleys. Edstrom came into service of team Degerfors IF and later went to Åtvidabergs FF where he became a Swedish football champion of 1972. In 1972 debuted the young Edstrom for NT and made three sensational goal against the Soviet Union in a match that ended 4-4. Edstrom established himself as a great striker and formed during the World Cup finals in 1974 attacking pair with Roland Sandberg, as they had already played together in the Åtvidaberg. During the World Cup Edstrom scored four goals, including a famous volley shot to the future world champions West Germany. In World Cup qualifying match against Norway at Ullevaal in Oslo, Norway September 7, 1977 Ralf Edstromwas brutally injured by Norwegian Svein Gröndal, which led to a several-month injury break. The match was won by Norway 2-1. Since Sweden had qualified for the World Cup finals in Argentina Edstrom played in all matches (Brazil, Spain and Austria), although there was a question of short appearances. Edstrom played in the Netherlands (PSV Eindhoven), Belgium (Standard Liege) and France (AS Monaco). From the Netherlands he was bought home to IFK Gothenburg for two seasons in the late 70's. After his time in Monaco, where he finished with a severe injury, it was intended that he would play for Örgryte but the injury meant that he never represented the club. English wikipedia presents statistics on course to Ralf played three seasons in Ögryte IS 83-85, while the Swedish claims that he never represented Örgryte :?: Today Edstrom acts as an expert commentator at Radio Sports Football transmission is, usually in pairs with Lasse Granqvist.
