One of the greatest Romanian players. Anghel was technically gifted inside forward, who could play even deeper in midfield. He was excellent dribbler with great ball control, had good shooting technique, solid passing and he was dangerous from set pieces as well. In Romania only wore the shirt of Steaua Bucharest, having joined in early 1962, at the age of 12 years. Six years later she made her first appearance in the field with the first team, while it is dated 1971, his first appearance with Romania. Between 1968 and 1982 he scored 146 goals with Steaua, which makes him the leading scorer in team history in Bucharest. With the Romanians Steaua Iordănescu won two championships (1976 and 1978) and five cups of Romania (1969, 1970, 1971, 1976, and 1979). In the 1981-1982 season was the top scorer of the first division (the Divizia A). In 1982 he left Romania to play Iordănescu nell'OFI Crete, Greece returned two years later, becoming assistant coach of Steaua, the team he had played. With the bench as head coach Emerich Jenei, Iordănescu won the 1985 championship and the Champions League 1985-1986, down from the other in the field as a substitute in the final with Barcelona. Emerich Jenei was appointed coach of Romania in the summer of 1986, and so became the coach of Steaua Iordănescu. He led the team to three national titles (1987, 1988 and 1989) and three cups of Romania in the same year. At the international level, with Iordănescu Steaua reached the semifinals of the Champions League 1987-1988 and the final the following year (1988-1989). In 1990 Steaua Iordănescu left for the second time, signing a contract for the Cypriots dell'Anorthosis Famagusta. Terminated the contract in 1992, he returned to Steaua to guide the team to the quarter-finals of the Cup Winners Cup 1992-1993 and a new national title. In the summer of 1993 he was asked to replace Cornel Dinu as coach of the Romanian National. Iordănescu thus led the team to qualify for the 1994 World Championship, an event in which they then reached the quarterfinals, the best performances ever of Romanian football. He continued as a breeder of Romania after the 1994 World Cup, leading the national team to qualify for the championship of Europe 1996 and the 1998 world championship. After the defeat by Croatia in the second round of the 1998 world championship, Iordănescu resigned, going to lead to another national, Greek, from which the bench was sacked in 1999 after the failure to qualify for the Championship of Europe 2000. In 2000 he was put under contract by the Al-Hilal Saudi team, conducted in the same year to win the AFC Champions League AFC in the Super Cup and the Copa del Principe. Despite these resounding successes left the club after only one year to find a home to Rapid Bucharest, with the hope of reviving the great successes of Steaua 80s. It did not happen and the hoped Iordănescu was sacked a few weeks after receiving the assignment, so he signed for Al Ain, United Arab Emirates team. Romania failed to qualify for the World Championship Iordănescu 2002 and was named to replace the then Gheorghe Hagi CT, becoming his country's national selector for the second time. The main goal, to qualify for the Championship of Europe 2004, was not this time. The Romanian Football Federation's renewed confidence for the qualifiers for the 2006 world championships, saying that there was nobody better than him but no one was willing to assume the role of CT. After another poor performance against the little Armenia, Iordănescu was finally exonerated. After his second term as coach of Romania, he returned to Saudi Arabia, signing for Al-Ittihad Jeddah and leading the team to its second AFC Champions League in two years, in 2005. After only one year he was sacked for poor performance. At the beginning of the 2006-2007 season, Anghel Iordănescu is back to lead the Al Ain. After he decided to retire from football.
