INFO:

For a period in the 1970s nobody could touch Allan Simonsen and Borussia Moenchengladbach. The brilliant pint-sized Dane, with more tricks than a circus, won three consecutive titles and two UEFA Cups in Die Fohlen's most successful decade and was crowned European Footballer of the Year in 1977. Allan Simonsen was a right winger, more of a soloist than a leader. But, over the seasons, he has followed the normal evolution of virtuosos who settle down and fall into sobriety. Never staying in place, he could dribble three rivals in the space of a pocket handkerchief, sow en route with a jerk and a winged skid, the most attentive backs, and above all score goals, a lot of goals, decisive and implausible goals, marvelous goals that the normal or slowed down television images often made us admire. Holds the unique record of being the only player to score in the final of every European competition (UEFA Cup, Cup Winners' Cup & European Cup). He was a technically gifted, quick forward, and quite durable. He is the only Danish player in history to win Ballon d’Or award. A very diminutive winger predominantly playing on the right wing but who loved to roam the pitch looking to score goals himself as well as providing for others. A smart, nimble dribbler with great footballing instincts who initially struggled to find a place in the first team but soon became one of the best forwards in the history of the Bundesliga. Together with his countryman Henning Jensen and Jupp Heynckes, Mönchengladbach possessed one of the most productive forward lines ever seen in German football. He joined Barcelona in 1979 where he scored 31 goals in three seasons (in 98 games) but left the club in 1982 after the signing of Diego Maradona and Bernd Schuster.

Quote:
"The thin man, as I called Allan Simonsen, was a great footballer with a great technique. He was very clever, fast, he read the games very well, he scored a lot of goals and even scored them with head first of all despite his height" (Quini about Allan Simonsen)
