INFO

Emiliano Mascetti is legendary Verona captain, inside forward and central midfielder. Technically excellent with good dribbling, had excellent passing range, especially long passing. Brillant playmaker and conductor, not fast but very elegant with good shot, good runner and real captain. Mascetti was born in Como on 11 March 1943. The first steps as a player made them the team of the city that launched him among professionals in 1962 when he was only 19 years old. So in 1965 he decided to move to Pisa for a chance to compete with a higher category, since the C footprint began to keep up close. So when in the summer of 1967, the Verona asked him to come to complete the midfield of a team now ready for the big jump, Mascetti along with goalkeeper De Min left Pisa and moved to the Adige. And in fact in the next 11 championships, ten were played in football heaven. All these seasons were united by a common thread, and that is the presence in midfield Mascetti. His best years not by chance coincided with the best placing Hellas and were the 1972-73 and 1978-79. In both cases, he was named by sports newspapers as a major player in the league and even in 1979 at the age of thirty-three years Brera pushed to invoke the call-up. Now, however, the age began to take its toll, and in fact the following year saw him melancholy protagonist of one of the worst seasons in the club's history. Physical problems and injuries multiplied while the precision passing and dynamic in the field seemed all of a sudden lost. The following year he was the last of his long career. The new coach, Fernando Veneranda decided to focus on a young, fast, aggressive and full of hope, all of which belonged to the past Mascetti. So it was that the captain, the leader of the team, the record holder for appearances, was forced to sit more than once on the bench. So it was inevitable decision later this year, to hang up his boots. He was born at this point a second career, that of sporting director.
