He's regarded by many Lazio fans as the club's last true bandiera. In fact, he played for the Biancocelesti from 1971 to 1986 − excluding the 1980-81 season at Torino − playing 338 matches and scoring 51 goals. He retired in 1988 after two seasons at Ternana. He was near to be called up for Italy many times but ended up gaining only 7 caps for the B squad. D'Amico was a very offensive player, equally capable in midfielder and attack. He supported very well the strikers, especially Chinaglia and Garlaschelli, thanks to his passing ability that made him an able assist-man. He used to face his marker, who usually was a side-back, and beat him with class touches of the ball. He developed the attacking action with intuition, had a solid and proportioned physique of a short and fast man. He was unpredictable, many times unstoppable and a threat for the opposing defenders due to his high speed and sprints, remarkable technique and very good dribbling. He usually was very active throughout the entire match, crossing, shooting, running to the box to hit the ball with the head − which he could do fine despite his size and position. He was also a good free kick taker and accurate with both feet. He didn't score a huge amount of goals but he was quick when shooting. His creativity could change the outcome of a match but when he wasn't in a day of grace, he was just a weight for the whole team. A funny anecdote about D'Amico regards the fact that he liked eating − because of which he seemed to gain weight easily − and spending the night with girls. Therefore, coach Maestrelli preserved the young player's money, didn't let him drive and asked Giuseppe Wilson to control him during lunch and dinner outside. https://youtu.be/XVRjBUWWEEc Some goals https://youtu.be/3ye2VSi-rps?t=45 example of his good sprints followed goal https://youtu.be/BohBW3Buwqk?t=81 good long ball |
