Chiodi was a centre forward. He had his best time at Milan between 1978 and 1980, scoring 22 goals − 12 of which from penalty − in 67 matches and winning the 1978-79 Scudetto. He played also for Bologna and Lazio among others.
Chiodi was a good centre forward, who wasn't though very prolific and missed a lot of favorable scoring chances. During his first season at Milan, he scored only one goal from active play in Serie A. On the other hand he was an excellent penalty taker, gifted with a powerful shot. He wasn't very quick nor agile with his movements but he still was very useful, often acting as additional winger, who moved a lot without the ball to create space for his teammates or pass them the ball with short passes and took bumps thanks to his courage and good strength. He had good technique and dribbling, ability to shoot with volleys and very good elevation, thanks to which he could often hit the ball with the head.

Chiodi deserves the card "S04: PK Taker". In fact with Milan in the season 78-79, contributed to the achievement of the scudetto of the"Stella" realizing seven goals and six were relied on penalty kick, thus demonstrating that he is a specialist.
