Casarsa was a centre forward who could act also as secondary striker. He had his most prolific period at Fiorentina from 1974 to 1978: 126 matches and 28 goals. During the following three seasons at Perugia, his scoring rate decreased but he was still a key player for the Grifoni with 75 appearances and 8 goals. He played for other clubs including Spal, Bari and Udinese.
Casarsa was a strong striker, gifted with good technique. An able penalty taker, he took 13 successfully between Fiorentina and Perugia and used to take them without running. He was also a good free kick taker, characteristic he showed mainly at Perugia because at Fiorentina Antognoni already had that task. He had a fine sense of goal and accuracy with the head, was reactive and gifted with a remarkable leap. He was also capable to create scoring chances thanks to a fine passing ability. Occasionally, he helped regaining possession of the ball in the midfield.
