Della Martira was a centre back. He spent most of his career at Fiorentina, even though he wasn't a regular starter, playing 117 matches and scoring 6 goals from 1973 to 1978. Then he played 64 games for Perugia between 1978 and 1980. He played also for Paganese, Viareggio and Lazio.
Della Martira wasn't one of the most outstanding defenders but still a good one, who tried the best he could. He was a strong and able man marker, had good timing of reaction and accuracy with the head, especially thanks to a very good leap.
