Attack MindedINFO:Vannini was an attacking midfielder. He had his best time at Perugia, where he was one of the symbols of the club's golden era. He played 145 matches and scored 32 goals for the
Grifoni from 1974 to 1979, year of his retirement. He played also for Arezzo, Entella, Como and Foggia.
Regarded as arguably the best midfielder in the history of Perugia, Vannini stood out for his size and offensive prowess. He usually stayed near the box but was able to play more advanced to take advantage of his height or a bit backward when needed to support the defence. He was, in fact, very capable to make his way to the opposing goal and score with a header, one his specialties. He was gifted with a heavy body and was very slow, considered by some experts even pachydermic. Despite the fact that he didn't run much, he was always alert both in attack and defence, being decisive in both penalty areas. His technique was considerable, his tactical intelligence and passing ability were superb. He was effective with short passes near the box or long ones when playing less advanced. He was a key in a team that played with unsustainable rhythms and prevaled most of the times on opponents with a similar pace. He was comfortable with first time touches and his shots were powerful.
