Josip Bukal was centre forward, one of the best in former Yugoslavia. He was famous for having one of the strongest shots in history. Besides the ferocious shooting he was good in heading abilities, performed well volleys and bicycle kicks, and was naturally very strong player but his technique and touch were pretty modest. His heading was also very strong, he often scored headers from distance of 16-18 meters. He was also known for his free kick goals, in 1969 league match against Rijeka he scored from distance of 42 meters. During one game in Belgium, it is recorded that the ball was heading 141.3 km/h after his shot. Bukal was born in 1945 in Okešinovac (Croatia). With 127 goals he scored in 290 league and cup games in jersey of Željezničar Bukal holds a club record. In total he played 464 matches for Željezničar and scored 327 goals. For a first team he made his debut in 1963 against Vojvodina (0:1), and with 14 goals scored he was top scorer in season 1971/72 of Željezničar, when they won the only title of the Yugoslav League. Since 1973 he played for the Belgian team of RSC Standard Liege at around 200 games, and when he in the 1977 returned to his homeland, played half a year for Zeljeznicar before retiring. Bukal played four games and one goal for a young National team (1966-1967.). Than he played 24 games and scored 10 goals for the best selection of Yugoslavia in which he debuted on 12th October 1966 against Israel (3:1) in Tel Aviv, scoring the first two goals for the national team. His last game in the jersey of the National Team was on 29th May 1974 in a match against Hungary (2:3) in Sekešfehervar. Once completed playing career, Bukal was hired as a clerk for the membership and coach of Željezničar pioneers (1978-1981). And at one time led the team Sloga from Kraljevo, than in the summer of 1984 he came back to Željezničar engaged in activities related to the youth facility of Fk Željezničar. Josip Bukal died in 2016.

Bukal's shooting

Josip Bukal was most remembered for his rocket shots, few examples:

- "On Kosevo Stadium the audience did not stop humming while Jozo took a long momentum. I stood as a pioneer absorb, behind the goal of Mario Jantoljak , keeper of Rijeka. "Oh dear Lady, is he going to shoot from 40 metres on goal :o ", said the Rijeka's goalkeeper at the moment when somewhat relaxed, expecting the kick. The shot struck like a thunder under the bright lights and the ball found itself in the net! Jantoljak stood, could not believe his own eyes!"

- Match Crvenka - Željezničar, commentator Marko Kamenjašević follows Bukal's free kick: "Long momentum by Bukal, strong shot and and the ball, dear listeners, swept over the crossbar and over the Hungarian border!"

- "Friendly match Željezničar - Inter, in front of a full stadium Kosevo Bukal from 25 meters from goal performed the first free kick. The ball in the "wall" hit Frustaluppi, the center half, so strongly that he left lying in unconsciousness for several minutes before he had to be substituted. A few minutes later, again a free kick for the "Željo". Bukal once again sets the ball while the goalkeeper of the team in black and blue striped shirts, Ivano Bodron demands that his teammates make a wall: "barriera, barriera! But no one wanted to stay in the wall initially. After some players came in the "wall", it was some 30 meters from the goal of Inter, Jozo takes a running start, suddenly all Inter players from the "wall" so scared run away from it and another rocket followed which went through the hands of goalkeeper Bordon in the middle of the goal!"
