Željko Smolek is Former NK Zagreb legend, part of legendary generation which won promotion in the first league in 1973. He was left winger, very fast player known for his runs, quick dribblings and penetrations on the left flank, fantastic dribbler with useful crosses. In a match against Napredak Kruševac he dribbled past 7 opponents and than dribbled the 8th which was the keeper before scoring. He played for Kemičar Zagreb (1967-1969) and NK Zagreb (1969-1984), for which he played 670 matches. Member of talented generation that won entry into the first division. Piercing the left wing, a good dribbler, after a playing career remained at the club in various capacities as a coach and official. He trained also Zagorac from Krapina.
