Dhiab is a former attacking midfielder. He spent the majority of his career at ES Tunis where he played from 1972 to 1978 and 1980 to 1990 for a total 427 appearances and 127 goals. He also played in Saudi Arabia for Al-Ahli from 1978 to 1980, scoring 21 goals. He allegedly capped for Tunisia 108 times and scored scoring 15 goals but only 89 caps and 12 goals are recognised by FIFA. He took part to the 1978 FIFA World Cup. He won the African Footballer of the Year award in 1977 and he's the only Tunisian to achieve the accomplishment so far. He was also chosen as Tunisian footballer of the 20th century.
Nicknamed "Tunisian Michel Platini", Dhiab is arguably the greatest player Tunisia has ever produced. Dhiab was a fantastic player, elegant, technical, who controlled the midfield by dictating the pace with his excellent playmaking skills and ball distribution. Fast on and off the ball in short distances, not only he used his speed to dribble the opponents but also to get close to the opposition's area and receive the ball. He usually preferred wasting no time with the ball, quickly serving a teammate with a phenomenal pass. But he could also challenge opponents one-on-one and get past him thanks to his quick footwork and amazing dribbling. He was also a remarkable scorer who possessed an accurate left-footed shot, sometimes also quite powerful and effective from long range. He could use the right foot equally well and was a decent header. He often used the outside of either foot and did so even from free kick, so that he could bend the ball or attempt to surprise the goalkeeper from angled positions.
