Božo Bakota was a Croatian footballer. He was winger and side midfielder on both sides, fantastic penalty taker, for Sturm Graz he scored 34 penalties in a row. Božo Bakota was a very fast and penetrating player with rocket shot who could score also directly from corner kicks. And of course, a great shooter, skillful at overhead kicks. He most often played on the right wing, but he also played successfully with his left foot. It can be said that he was the prototype of a modern striker. Skillful runs on the wings often presented an insoluble problem to opposing defenders. His crosses in front of the goal represented a great danger for the rival team. And when he found himself in the opponent's penalty area, he would cause real confusion in the opponent's defense - he was able to do everything himself. He dribbled, shot, played teammates. He played for the low class Mladost Buzina (1968-71) and NK Zagreb (1972-79). In abroad played for Sturm Graz (1980-86), for which he played 200 matches and scored 105 goals, for FC Fürstenfeld (1986-87), Croatia Toronto FC (1988-90), with whom he won Cup (1988), and for Wildon FC (1990-91). For national team competed in 1978 vs Greece (4: 1) in Skopje. His second best season with NK Zagreb was 1977–78 when he scored 10 goals in 28 appearances, playing as their starting line-up midfielder. However, in 1979 they were relegated again. After staying at the club for one more season, Bakota decided to re-join his former manager Otto Barić at Austrian side SK Sturm Graz in 1980. He flourished there, forming an attacking partnership with Gernot Jurtin, and helping the club finish as league runners-up in the 1980–81 season, as well as becoming the league's top scorer in the 1981–82 season with 24 goals in 36 appearances. In European competitions, his greatest achievement was reaching the 1983–84 UEFA Cup quarter-finals with Sturm, before they were knocked out by England's Nottingham Forest 1–2 on aggregate. Bakota retired in 1986, having scored a total of 86 goals in 167 Austrian Bundesliga appearances for Sturm.
