INFO:Marini is a former defensive or central midfielder. He spent most of his career at Inter from 1975 to 1986 − year of his retirement − playing 375 matches and scoring 13 goals. He played also for Fanfulla, Varese, Reggina and Triestina. He capped for Italy 20 times, winning the 1982 FIFA World Cup.
Marini desired to be an attacking midfielder in his early career. Unfortunately, his technique and speed were considered not good enough and his running movements lacked of elegance. He was though gifted with superb teamwork and tactical awareness, great passing ability, outstanding stamina and mentality to support the team for the entire match. Therefore, he was deployed in front of the defence in order to stop the opposing attacks, cover the space but also to act as playmaker from the back. Moreover, he was effective near the opposing box thanks to a dangerous long range shot.
