He spent the majority of his career at Asante Kotoko where he played from 1966 to 1975. He led Asante Kotoko to win the 1970 Champions League as captain. He also played in Germany for Werder Bremen and Osterholz-Scharmbeck without success. He retired in 1980. He capped for Ghana 25 times, scoring 7 goals. He won the African Footballer of the Year award in 1971. Considered one of Ghana's finest ever players, Sunday was the typical midfielder whose main task was to build the attack and provide his teammates with excellent passes. A brilliant player, he impressed for his ball winning ability, distribution, dribbling skills, creativity and leadership. His small stature wasn't an issue in Africa but it made him struggle in Germany where he didn't find success. |

Some sources indicates he could also play as a wide midfielder.
