Rado is a former goalkeeper and he's considered one of Catania historical players, with 240 matches from 1966 to 1973. He played also for Bologna − winning the 1961 Mitropa Cup and most importantly the 1963-64 Serie A −, Reggiana and Clodiense. He retired in 1976. He played 4 times for Italy U-21 but never managed to gain a full international cap.
Rado was a very short goalkeeper and due to his size, he was gifted with incredible athletic skills, which made him admirable to watch. He was able to fly and make feline leaps, reaching every angle of his goal, always protecting it. However it was said that because of myopia, which gave him problems of sight, he was weak at stopping shots from the distance. His most memorable match was against Cagliari on 18th April 1971: he was receiving thunderous shots delivered by Riva from every possible position but he stopped all of them with hands and feet, courage and luck; at one point a penalty was assigned to Cagliari and, despite Greatti initially was the one who should've take it, Riva kicked it after Cagliari supporters called his name; Rado thought that Riva would've kicked the ball with usual power, so he didn't move; Riva was misled and he shot the ball without power nor accuracy, allowing Catania goalkeeper to stop the ball after a dive to the side. Regular Catania goalkeeper for seven straight seasons, he missed a few matches during his time in the team.
