Attack MindedINFO:Worku was an inside forward. He's considered one of the best ever Ethiopian footballers alongside Luciano Vassallo and Ydnekatchew Tessema. Luciano Vassallo − who scored 99 goals in 104 matches for Ethiopia − considers Worku as the greatest. He spent his entire career at Saint-George from 1953 to 1970. He was noticed at the 1962 African Cup of Nations when he led Ethiopia to win the tournament for their first and only time, becoming the top scorer with 3 goals. His incredible performance overshadowed those of the Vassallo's brothers Luciano and Italo, making him immediately a fan favourite. He received several offers from Italian and French clubs as well as Egyptian team Zamalek. However he decided to stay in his own country. He won 98 caps for Ethiopia and scored 61 goals from 1958 to 1970.
Recognizable by his jersey number 8, Worku was an able dribbler and passer of accurate balls, gifted with great technique and athleticism as well as a lethal left foot with which he could score easily. He could use with accuracy the right foot as well. He had an impeccable ball control with either feet or chest, acceleration and positional sense. Despite being short, he was efficient with the head and his heading ability was one of his strongest points thanks to a powerful leap and great reaction that made him able to anticipate the most dashing defenders or the overjump the tallest ones. Often victim of fierce tackles from defenders who couldn't stop him, he was a fearless warrior who had a do-or-die attitude when representing his country that made him the true soul of the national team.
