Defence MindedINFO:Sulfaro was a goalkeeper. Grown up at Messina, he was a second choice for most of his career except the 1968-69 season when he played 33 matches for Sambenedettese in Serie C. He was noticed by Lazio who signed him and initially made him the first choice goalkeeper. He ended playing 16 Serie A games in the 1969-70 season. He was then featured at Fiorentina in 1971-72 and Roma in the following season. He transferred to Vicenza in 1973, staying here for five seasons. He played only 15 Serie A and 4 Serie B games with Lanerossi Vicenza but with the Biancorossi he had the probably most memorable moment of his career when he saved a penalty kicked by Gianni Rivera.
Sulfaro was noticed in young age for his strong physique, sprints and agility. He could cover decently when moving out of the goal and save shots from the distance thanks to a good reaction. He was physically, athletically and technically gifted, making spectacular saves. Unfortunately he also made many mistakes, most of the times crucial, meaning that Serie A was too hard for him.
