He spent his entire career at Hyderabad City Police in the late 1950s and throughout the 1960s. An international player, he took part to the 1960 Olympics and 1962 Asian Games. A key player in the latter, his performance in the tournament earned him the well deserved Arjuna Award in 1966. He was one of only two Indians to be included in the 1965 Asian All Stars XI. Regarded as one of the most talented and best all-rounded players in the history of India, Khan was a living legend and a midfield maestro who controlled the play in the center of the field, creating magic with his legs. Gifted with immense work rate, he was known as "bearded horse" due to his constant galloping on the pitch. A player of outstanding leadership and commitment, he kept playing despite having suffered three head injuries. When he was in the field, he had no second thoughts about sacrificing himself for the team. He mainly moved around the center of the field, tricking the opponents with his superb ball control ─ considered a thing for legends. |
