Italo Vassallo was a centre-forward. Not as legendary as his brother Luciano, he still is one of the most beloved Ethiopian players ever. Some sources report that he played only for Cotton Factory Club from 1960 to 1974, winning the national championships four times between 1960 and 1965, while others though that he joined Saint-George in 1966 and played there until his retirement. An international player, he scored at least 4 goals in 10 matches and was part of the Ethiopian squad that won the 1962 African Cup. His was the goal that gave his team the lead in the final against Egypt.
A great player since he was very young, Vassallo was an exceptional striker, prolific, physically strong and technically very gifted. He wasn't only aggressive from a footballing point of view but he was also a hothead.
