INFO:Poppi was a side back. Grown up at Milan, he spent the majority of his career at Reggina, where he played around 150 matches from 1970 to 1975 ─ four seasons in Serie B and one in Serie C ─ year of his retirement from professional football. He played also in Serie A for Atalanta as a reserve, still making 56 appearances ─ 88 during his entire experience with the
Bergamaschi. He played also for Alessandria and Genoa.
Poppi was right-footed and mainly a right back but was very comfortable on the left too. He wasn't very tall but had a good physique and was a good marker. In a match against Cagliari, he managed to stop none other than Roberto Boninsegna. He seemed to suffer against tricky players and was prone to make own-goals when he tried to intercept the ball. He very rarely pushed forward and scored only twice in his career, one with Atalanta in a Coppa Italia match against Roma, when he shot with a bicycle kick.
