INFO:

The Iron Foot Hottges is legendary German defender. He was notorious for his hard style of play and agressive tackling. Hottges played all positions in defence, in early years he was more offensive minded, but later concentrated more on defensive tasks and even started to play as libero. Hottges was excellent penalty taker and could score from a free kick as well. Very strong and with good speed, great tackler although not always clean in sliding, he knew to make solid long ball, the ultimate fighter on the pitch, very reliable and useful. From his original club Blau-Weiss Dahl 1960 he came to Borussia Moenchengladbach. After a year in the Regionalliga West (1963-64 season) at Borussia Moenchengladbach Höttges graduated from 1964 to 1978 in 420 games for Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga. He succeeded in every season for Werder at least one goal. In total he scored 55 Bundesliga goals, including 39 by penalty kick goals and 5 and 13 goals in the DFB Cup, nine of them by penalty. He is the box player with the most league games for Werder Bremen exceeded, it is only by goalie Dieter Burdenski. In the national team, he came as a fast, strong-tackling and more enthusiastic, however, technically limited to 66 full-back missions 1965-1974, scoring a hit (at 12:0 against Cyprus on 21 May 1969. Höttges took part in three world championships and has been with the national team at the 1966 World Cup in England vice-world champion at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico third at the World Cup in Germany 1974 World Cup and at Euro 1972 European champion. In 1965 he won the German Cup with Werder Bremen. In 1966 he was fourth with Bremen, 1968 runner-up. Three times he reached the semifinals in Bremen DFB-Pokal (1972, 1973 and 1978). In the 70 years the club was Höttges mainly as a pre-toppers, then employed as a sweeper. Between 1968 and 1978, Bremen only played in midfield or in the lower regions of the Bundesliga. Great successes were made despite millions invested. The flippant saying: "With me growing SV Werder does not," was quoted as Höttges always should come true. In 1978, Horst-Dieter finished Höttges, who as a player nicknamed "iron foot", his career as a Bundesliga player. After a year as an amateur in Oberbecksen He returned to the Green White: in the 1979/80 season he played for Werder Bremen in the former Amateur Amateur Oberliga Nord. An attempt to reactivate him as a sweeper for the defending Bundesliga team was weak, but not for formal reasons to perform. In fact, the first team went into this second season after Höttges for one year from the Bundesliga. Höttges is still closely associated with the SV Werder Bremen and a frequent guest at the home games in the Weser Stadium. He also played several years in the tradition of self-Uwe Seeler and coached the youth team of the C-SV Werder.
