Max Lorenz is former Werder all-rounder who played all positions in midfield and defence, he played as winger in early 60's as well. Strong and endurable, with surprising dribblings from the back line. Defensive playmaker of Werder. Very mobile player capable of making good marking job, despite his size and strength he was very elegant in his moves. He spent most of his career with Werder Bremen, making 250 league appearances in nine years at the club and winning the Bundesliga in the 1964–65 season. He spent three years at Eintracht Braunschweig. At international level, he made 19 appearances scoring one goal for the West Germany national team. The long-time member of the Green-Whites and former German international was part of the Werder team that won the German Cup in 1961 as well as an important member of the legendary team which won the club’s first Bundesliga title in 1965. In 1966, Lorenz helped Germany finish runner-up at the World Cup in England. Lorenz, who was employed as a merchant at Jacobs Kaffee in his younger years, worked for a leading sporting goods retailer after his career. Lorenz received a handprint at the Mall of Fame in Bremen in 2006.
