INFO:Bernd was the youngest of 4 Dorfels who made history at HSV alongside his brother Charly, father Friedo and uncle Richard. Like his older brother Gert, Bernd Dörfel was a winger but moved back to midfield as the 1960s progressed. Not quite as talented as his brother he still was more successful in getting capped 15 times compared to the 11 caps of his older brother. Bernd had excellent pace and run a lot on he wing but also back in defence, good strength and knew to make good run on the right flank ending with solid crosses but often too strong on the far post. His scoring record was modest, although he had solid shot and even good leap. Bernd was talented player but lacked consistency and had weird and sometimes problematic behaviour. Bernd Dörfel from the green and white of 07 Hamburger to Hamburg Sport Verein. Dörfel comes from a football family. Of the HSV-amateurs 1963/64 he was promoted to the pros, played in the league 88 times for the Hamburger SV and BL scored 18 hits. His greatest success was in 1968, the final participation in the European Cup Winners' Cup against AC Milan (0-2 loss). He then moved to Eintracht Braunschweig, where he played until 1970, 51 times in the Bundesliga, scoring four goals. He let his career end in Geneva Servette. After Bernd Dörfel had already played four times in the 1964 amateur national team, he graduated as a right winger 1966-1969 15 caps for the German national team, scoring two goals. He was instrumental in the qualifiers for the 1970 World Cup in Mexico. A form of weakness during the season 1969/70, however, prevented his appointment to the 1970 World Cup squad.
