Friedl Lutz is regarded as the best ever Eintracht defender and the fastest defender in Germany at his time. He was centre half and right back, also wing half if needed. Lutz was very fast player with great positioning and jump, so he'd anticipate his opponents without using much force or tackles. He played also as wing half in WM system showing solid footwork and decent passing range. The defender began his career in 1950 FV Bad Vilbel. He then moved to Eintracht Frankfurt, where he achieved his greatest successes. He came to a total of 324 league games for Frankfurt to use (including 200 and 124 games in the Bundesliga appearances in the league). In 1959 he became German champion with his club. His time in Frankfurt, was interrupted by a brief interlude (season 1966/67) at 1860 Munich. For the "lions", he played eleven league games without a goal. Then he returned to Frankfurt and played until 1973. His professional career was over. During his time at Eintracht Frankfurt 1960-1966 he was twelve times the jersey of the German national team and was with her in England in 1966 Vice World Champion. Debuting for West Germany on 3 August 1960, in Iceland a major injury prevented him from taking part in the 1962 FIFA World Cup for his country. However, he won a runner-up medal with the West Germans four years later at the 1966 FIFA World Cup. Lutz retired from playing for West Germany after that tournament, making his final appearance in the semi-final win over the Soviet Union (2-1).
