Wilhelm Sturm was versatile player able to cover all positions in midfield but also inside forward and side back. A valuable teamplayer who spent most of his career as a solid defensive midfielder for Borussia Dortmund. He was especially good in defensive duties, strong in heading, good tackler and marker. Tireless and persistent, mentally strong with solid sense of defensive positioning and good understanding with teammates. Besides Sturm had solid dribbling, good speed without the ball and strong shot from distance. He could score also from long range free kicks. Sturm came in 1961 by Wattenscheider District Club Union Günnigfeld to Borussia Dortmund. He played there until 1971 and was awarded the 1963 German champions Borussia and 1965 DFB-Cup winner. In 1966 he belonged to the Borussia team that won the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup at Hampden Park in Glasgow for the first time a European Cup for a German soccer team. He finished his career at Borussia. Overall, he came to 53 games (9 goals) in the Oberliga West, and collected also 186 matches (12 goals) in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund. Willi Sturm also played once in the national team, namely 1964 against Finland. Wilhelm Sturm died in 1996, aged just 56.
