INFO:Regarded as the HSV best left back, Kubbi was a tough and uncompromising defender who gave everything for his team. He was ambitious and a great team player. Strong in duels and in good condition with powerful shot. He liked to join the attack and especially sending numerous long balls which weren't always precise but he insisted in finding his teammates in attack on this way, he also possesed solid ball control and could carry the ball steadily out from defence. A tall and lean left back who was a fixture for Hamburg between 1960 and 1972. The East Prussian Jürgen Kurbjuhn was reputed for taking no prisoners on the pitch. To round 1960/61 he moved to the new German football champions Hamburg SV in the football league north. By the end of the league era, 1962/63, came to 78 league appearances and scored a goal. In the finals at the German Football Championship 1961-1963 Kurbjuhn played thirteen games with the HSV. Highlights have been in the league phase of the games in the European Cup of Champions 1960/61. About Young Boys Bern and the English champions Burnley FC Hamburg came in the semi-final against FC Barcelona. Until the 1971/72 round Jürgen Kurbjuhn came to 242 Bundesliga appearances and scored ten goals. His greatest achievement was reaching the finals in the European Cup Winners' Cup 1968 The final of the HSV lost against AC Milan with 0-2. After losing the 1967 Cup final against FC Bayern Munich, HSV could only compete in the European Cup because Bayern had won this competition in 1967 and were therefore qualified as the defending champion already for the new season. The last league game Kurbjuhn completed on 30 October 1971 at the 1:4 home defeat against FC Bayern Munich. Injuries followed and forced him to retire. At the end of his second season in the Oberliga Nord, 1961/62, he was appointed by national coach Sepp Herberger in the German national soccer team. On 11 Debuted in April 1962 Kurbjuhn local People's Park Stadium in the last test match before the FIFA World Cup 1962 in Chile against Uruguay in the national team. He belonged to the squad for the FIFA World Cup 1962 in Chile, however, was not used. Overall, it left the defenders brought from Hamburg SV 1962-1966 in five internationals. His last international match played in a 4-0 victory on 4 May 1966 in Dublin against Ireland. Trained as a banker he worked after his playing career as insurance or real estate broker and a thriving business in Buxtehude Agency. Temporary Kurbjuhn was also the city council of his hometown. He died in 2014.
