Ivan Dimitrov was probably even the best ever Bulgarian defender. An іntellіgent and сonfіdent defender, рlaуіng well wіth hіѕ head, fast and unсomрromіѕіng іn сlasheѕ. Strong defender but didn't have superb technique. He played for clubs Torpedo, Lokomotiv, Spartak and Akademik. In total he played in 340 games in Bulgarian first league. He won league title with Lokomotiv Sofia in 1964. For Bulgarian National Team Dimitrov appeared in 72 games and scored 1 goal against Denmark in 1959. He made his debut for NT on 21/07/1957 against USSR (0-4) and his last match for Bulgaria was on 02/06/1970 in World Cup against Peru (02-03), coming on as a substitute to replace injured Dimitar Penev. Dimitrov participated on Summer Olympics in 1960 and World Cups in 1962 and 1970. Ivan Dimitrov passed away in 2019.
