INFO:

Reinhard Libuda was former German footballer and one of the best ever German wingers, alongside Littbarski. Libuda was most known for his fantastic dribbling skills and especially "Matthews-trick", that's why is he nicknamed "Stan". Libuda was very fast player with excellent crosses from the flank which provided numerous goals. He was usually coming very deep to get the ball and than he'd start his long outstanding slaloms. His tremendous skill as a dribbler was a major factor in Borussia Dortmund’s 1966 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup championship and West Germany’s hard-won qualification and its third-place finish in the 1970 FIFA World Cup. In the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup Final in 1966 he scored the final goal against Liverpool F.C.. Libuda played for FC Schalke 04 from 1961 until 1976 with two interruptions: from 1965 until 1968 he played for Borussia Dortmund, and 1972–73 for RC Strasbourg. Between 1963 and 1971, Libuda gained 26 caps for the Germany national football team and scored 3 goals. In the German Fußball-Bundesliga he played 264 games and scored 28 goals for FC Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund. Later he was involved in the Bundesligaskandal of 1971, together with some of his teammates. They were accused of match fixing and banned from football. In 1974 they were pardoned. But the damage was done. It was fantastic generatrion of Schalke players which almost won the title in 1970 and this was sad end. Besides they already started to play for German NT and surely they would have been selected for WC 1974, but that scandal changed everything. Reinhard Libuda gained his nickname "Stan" after the English player Stanley Matthews who played in the same position and who was widely praised for his dribbling skills. The shy Libuda later suffered from cancer, and died from the complications of a stroke on 25/08/1996, aged only 52.
