INFO:
Brugnera was a midfielder or striker. His career began in 1963 at Fiorentina, where he played as centre forward of movement, scoring 28 goals in 87 matches. He transferred to Cagliari in 1968, where he remained until 1982 ─ excluding the spell at Bologna in 1974-75 ─ and acted as inside right then central midfielder and later as sweeper. With the Rossoblu he won the 1969-70 Scudetto, played 401 games and scored 45 goals. He retired in 1983 after a season at Carbonia.
One of the most important players in the history of Cagliari, Brugnera was nicknamed "Little Di Stefano" in honour of the legendary Real Madrid player. Brugnera was gifted with great technique, excellent ball control and could use well both feet. When he received a pass he would pass the ball back or cross it with the same accuracy or deliver great shots. He was very effective in 1-on-1 with the defenders thanks to solid pace and great dribbling. He also had quick reaction inside the box. In fact, he many times anticipated defenders and goalkeepers to send a rejected ball in goal and less frequently to hit it with a header. A great teamworker, he played for the team even when he acted as centre forward in order to make the whole attack work.
