Fernand Goyvaerts was brillant dribbler, mainly the right winger and inside right, very gifted technically and tricky player. He was a former player of Club Bruges, where he debuted at age sixteen. A penalty goal from him in 1958 in a match against Verviers ensured that Club Brugge promoted to First Class. After a conflict with the Romanian coach Norberto Höfling Goyvaerts moved in 1962 to FC Barcelona for five million BEF. Two years later he was named best foreign player in La Liga. The next year he moved to Real Madrid, where he helped by injuries never broke. He followed coach Alfredo Di Stefano to Elche CF. The subsequent season he played for OGC Nice , where he remained for three seasons. In 1971 he returned to Belgium and was still playing for Cercle Bruges , Lokeren , Lukewarm and RRC Tournai. He caollected eight appearances for the Red Devils since he was forbidden to play for NT considering his status as a professsional player. Fernand died in 2004.
