Konietzka was mobile, had solid strength, not the fastest one, but very intelligent with fast reactions, solid technique and shot, he was also skillful in making quick one-two passes. A goal-hungry inside left with fluctuations in his performances which ultimately cut short his international career as Sepp Herberger once said about him: „I am never sure which Konietzka will show up.“ In the 1960s won the striker who scored the first goal in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund and TSV 1860 Munich German league titles. Konietzka began playing football at VfB Lünen 08. The former Borussia Dortmund coach, Max Merkel discovered his talent and built it into the first division team of the BVB. Konietzka played for Borussia Dortmund in 1963 and 1965 to 1967 for the 1860 Munich a total of 100 Bundesliga games and scored 72 goals. In nine appearances for the German national football team, he scored 3 goals. Timo Konietzka went down in football history when he on 24 August 1963 scored in the game between Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund in the first minute of the game's first goal of the newly formed Bundesliga for Dortmund. His greatest successes as a player with Borussia Dortmund were winning the German championship in 1963, the last before the introduction of the Bundesliga and the DFB Cup 1965. With the TSV 1860 Munich in 1966 he won the German championship. At the age of 29 years moved Konietzka 1967 surprise of the Bundesliga for FC Winterthur in Switzerland, then playing in the National League B, and helped the club to an immediate resurgence in 1968, the NLA and the entry into the Cup Final that year. In 1971 he finally ended his career at FC Winterthur as a player. After retiring, he worked as a coach others for Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Uerdingen, FC Zurich and Grasshoppers Zurich. With FC Zurich, he was Swiss champion three times in a row (1974-1976) and reached the semifinals in 1977 and the European Cup of Champions (forerunner of the Champions League), in which the FC Zurich v FC Liverpool - then the dominant team in Europe - was eliminated. From 1978 to 1980 he was the coach of BSC Young Boys and twice reached the Swiss Cup final. He then moved to the Grasshoppers, with which he secured in 1982 another Swiss championship. Timo died in 2012. |
