INFO:

Zvonko Bego is former Croatian player mainly playing as a left winger. He was most known for his speed and dribbling but had also strong shot and goal instinct. Bego was great fighter which made him beloved by fans and should made even better reputation but unfortunately he played in one of the worst periods of club's history. His 2 brothers also played professional football. Zvonko made his debut in 1957 as 17 years ols and immediately conquered the jersey No 11 and kept it for the next 10 years. With club Zvonko won only 1 National Cup in 1967, before he moved abroad to Bayern Munchen, than Twente and Bayer Leverkusen. Bego always says his favourite goal is one scored in 1958 against Vojvodina with a great header, following an excellent sharp cross from Pave Garov. Hajduk's famous president Tito Kirigin used to say Bego was equally talented as legendary Bernard Vukas. Zvonko Bego played on from the age of 16 to 26 for Hajduk Split before leaving the squad for Bundesliga in 1967/68 FC Bayern Munich and in December 1967 left towards the Netherlands. In the first division club Twente Enschede he came in the 1967/68 season to six appearances (debut on 17 December 1967 at the 1:2 defeat in the away game at DWS Amsterdam), but scored a goal (on April 15, 1968 2 :2-draw at ADO Den Haag). He then returned to Germany, to Bayer 04 Leverkusen, he played in the 1968/69 season 17 times and scored one goal. Bego played six times for the national team of his country, scoring two goals. His debut was on 19 November 1961 in Zagreb in a 2-1 victory in the Test match against Austria, his two goals he scored on 2 December 1961 in Hong Kong in a 2-1 victory over Hong Kong on 7 December 1961 Jarkarta a 5-1 victory over Indonesia. His last game he played on 14 December 1961 in Tel Aviv's 2-0 victory over Israel. For Hajduk Split he collected 375 games and scored 173 goals which is excellent average considering the fact he was mostly used as a left winger.
