Petar Zhekov is legendary Bulgarian scoring machine. In 1963 the youth European championship in England, Petar Zhekov learned the trick for the perfect execution of a direct free kick, with which he will then score hundreds of goals. He showed it in one of the first trainings in his new team "Beroe" that out of ten strokes he will score at least eight. Witnesses to the performance swear he was punctual in the ten performances. As an assistant coach of CSKA in the 80's he learned how to score a goal from a direct free kick strikers Hristo Stoichkov, Lyuboslav Penev and Emil Kostadinov. Plamen Getov from Spartak (Pl) also trained on the same trick before. Tall and solid, not very fast but a good technician, he scored many goals, especially from set pieces. He was very prolific centre forward although he scored lot of goals against low quality opponents. Player with great intuition for goal, very strong or even fat, and skillful to protect the ball, with good shot and heading as well although not some great jump. Petar Petrov Zhekov was born on October 10, 1944 in the village Knijovnik, Haskovo. He played as a striker for Chemist (Dimitrovgrad) (1960-1962, 14 games and 8 goals in group "A"), Beroe (Stara Zagora) - (1963-1968, 135 games and 101 goals in group "A", according to unofficial Data has 131 goals) and CSKA (Sofia) - (1968 to 1975, playing 184 games in four of whom is the captain and scored 144 goals in group "A" - CSKA record). Champion in 1969, 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1975 Cup winner in 1969, 1972, 1973 and 1974 have 333 games and 253 goals (absolute record) in the "A" group. Scorer of the tournament with Beroe in 1967 - 21 goals, 1968 with 31 goals and with CSKA in 1969 with 36 goals, 1970-31, 1972-27, 1973-29. Winner of the "Golden Boot" in 1969, the "Silver Boot" in 1970 and "Bronze" in 1973 Cup tournament played in 14 matches and scored seven goals for the SSC has 5 games and 2 goals. According to the ranking of the International Federation of Football History and Statistics, he is under № 97 in the first hundred of the goalscorers in the world. "Honoured Master of Sports" by 1965 from 44 matches and 25 goals for the "A" national team, the first game of the "B" national, 2 games for youth and 14 games with 3 goals in the youth national team. In 1996, playing 6 games and scored 3 goals for Beroe in the "B" group. Former coach of CSKA (Sofia) Benkovski (Montana), Dobrudja (Dobrich), Yambol and Vihren (Sandanski). In Pazardzhik Benkovski leads the season 1976/1977, in the area "Thrace", as teams ranked first and puts it in the southern group B with 45 points in 30 games, 19 wins, 7 draws and 4 losses with goal difference 70-24. His assistant in this period was Ivan Butrakov.
