Eddy was very consistent keeper and excellent penalty saver, with good positioning on the line but not too mobile and always punched the balls, rarely tried to catch it and didn't look convincing on the high balls and crosses. In 1999 he was appointed by the IFFHS listed in the top three best Dutch keepers of the past century. He was standing behind Hans van Breukelen and Edwin van der Sar. As a goalkeeper, he played for Ajax, Feyenoord and the Dutch national team. His nickname was, in his abbreviated surname, Eddy PG. At Ajax he was succeeded by Bertus Hoogerman. At eighteen occupied Eddy Pieters Graafland a permanent place in Ajax 1. He came for Ajax in the Dutch national team, but then had to make room for Frans de Munck, who at the newly appointed coach Elek Schwartz would have preferred. In 1958 Pieters Graafland Ajax transferred to Feyenoord. Fans sent him a tearful letter with a black border. He left the club after disagreement on a trip to South Africa. Which lasted longer than previously agreed, allowing semi-pro PG had to travel on your own. On 28 April 1957 he made his debut in Dutch soccer team in the Olympic Stadium against Belgium (1-1). He would be 47 times the goal of the Dutch team defense. As a specialty, he had to reverse penalty. For this purpose he kept a notebook of all potential penalty takers the favorite corners. At the end of his long career, with five national titles but after a forced leave of Orange after two errors against Yugoslavia Ð 'Ð was still sporting the big reward. In the European Cup season 1969/70 he was called at the last minute for the final against Celtic. Happel had Eddy Treijtel at Feyenoord until the successor to PG proclaimed, but a few days before the final in Milan, he opted for the experience of the 36-year-old Pieters Graafland. Who had only the playing rhythm of the second and had a night to think about the invitation. He ran his round through Barendrecht to the fitness test, played a test match against DOS and stood at San Siro under the crossbar As a hobby, Eddy PG making amateur film.
